OKFIELD
(Research Number OK02909C)
providing
resistance to imidazolinone (Beyond) chemical.
Okfield has a relatively large kernel
size but test weight is average. It is a moderately tall semi-dwarf
with about the same straw strength as Ok101. It is resistant to
powdery mildew in adult plants.
Okfield is intermediate in acid-soil
tolerance, Moderately susceptible to wheat soil-borne mosaic, stripe
rust, stem rust, septoria leaf blotch, and tan sport. It is
susceptible to leaf rust.
Okfield should appeal to grain-only
and dual-purpose producers who place greater emphasis on winter
grazing potential and grain production. Forage accumulation in
early fall is average but forage regrowth during the grazing period
and recovery from grazing are above average.
Adaptation to dual-purpose systems
that emphasize grain production following grazing throughout central
and Western Oklahoma is a strong suit of Okfield. Stand
establishment will likely be delayed for Okfield when planted
extremely early or in hot soils compared with rapid emerging
varieties like Jagger and Ok101.
